Since 1997, the founders of Lighthouse Writers Workshop (LWW) have strived to ensure that literature maintains its proper prominence in the culture, and that individuals achieve their fullest potential as artists and human beings. Over the past year, SVP Denver has partnered with them on several key initiatives.
“What we really need is a bold vision for the future, as well as a framework— and the knowledge — on how to get there,” LWW leadership wrote in their capacity-building application to SVP Denver. “And by ‘there’ we mean a place we can call home.”
The SVP Denver engagement team worked with LWW on several projects related to finance, board development, real estate and human resources. Led by SVP Treasurer Reggie Vegliante, several SVP partners participated in this engagement, including commercial real estate broker Amy Aldridge, employment attorney Sarah Bhagwandin, recruiter Joanne Bennett, personal financial consultant Stacey Frank and corporate attorney Tyler Mark. Each partner brought their unique personal and professional background to a team which together delivered a big impact for LWW.
For example, SVP helped LWW adopt a policy to establish cash reserves that will enable them to achieve their strategic goal of long-term financial sustainability. SVP also provided evaluation materials to the board governance committee for assessing board skills and recommendations for greater board effectiveness.
Prior to partnering with SVP Denver, LWW was at a key inflection point, with their primary goal being to secure a permanent home. SVP made connections with real estate professionals and provided guidance when considering leasing versus buying.
“The SVP team of professionals helped our organization make mature and informed decisions at this critical time,” said Laurie Wagner, LWW Development Director.
The work that SVP did with LWW staff and the board of directors, which concluded in August 2019, was focused on helping LWW establish a strong foundation to achieve their long-term strategic and financial goals. SVP Denver is excited about the future of Lighthouse Writers Workshop as they prepare to launch a capital campaign to build new space for the organization and contribute to developing a thriving nonprofit community. This type of engagement is at the core of what we do.
